Last week, I responded to those readers and subscribers who have inquired about reprinting any of our 750+ blog articles. Obviously, we want our articles to continue to appear in high school and college newspapers, church bulletins, business newsletters, and a wide variety of business and personal blogs. That article not only explained the reprint process but also highlighted one of our 26 content categories: “Generational Gems for Future Leaders.”
Today, I’d like to give you some idea of what you can find in the category of “Need a Lift?” which currently offers close to 50 different articles. Let me explain why I made the decision to create this particular category.
In my personal role as a consultant, keynote speaker and trainer, it is imperative that I read a great deal of material daily in the form of books, magazines, newspapers, and web sites. I also watch a lot of TV and listen to the radio whenever possible.
Needless to say, that means I come into contact with an enormous number of very negative news stories. I fully understand that. Negativity sells. However, being exposed to it in heavy doses can take its toll. It can cause you to become a cynic, lose your enthusiasm and positive attitude, and cause you to soon expect the worst of any situation. Exposure to the daily news, in any form, can be extremely damaging to your mental and emotional health. The list goes on and on, but regardless of the subject matter: No good news!
Thus, for all of us who might “Need a Lift” from time to time, to brighten our day … to balance the negativity of daily strife … or just to appreciate the fact that there are good people and good things happening every day somewhere … we focus this category on good news articles. Our goal here is to bring a smile to your face, a tear to your eye or a little inspiration to your day. Some of the articles may even restore a little faith in the human race.
Our next installment will examine the category of “When the Going Gets Tough.”
I first heard the commercial on April 1st, so obviously I assumed it was simply an April Fool’s joke. However, apparently the joke’s on us. And it certainly will be if we don’t show restraint.

I’ve had the phenomenal pleasure of working with teachers and school officials at every level for several decades. I’ve lost count of the number of in-service presentations I’ve made over the years, and I’ve always been impressed by the fact that teachers love to continue learning themselves!
We’re entrusting our most cherished possessions to our teacher’s today. Here’s an action plan that’s certainly worth pursuing: Simply take a moment to thank a teacher. Send an e-mail or hand-written letter expressing your appreciation for their dedicated efforts. Better yet, stop by the classroom and express your feelings face to face. They certainly deserve it and will whole-heartedly appreciate it!
In the spirit of C.A.N.I. (Continuous And Never-ending Improvement), here are this week’s new facts—one for each day of your coming week. Pass them on to others to keep the spirit alive or invite your friends and family to visit our blog where they can also view previous entries.
Let me share a few figures with you that should shock you if you’ll pause to think about them for just a moment!
There are so many simple values that can have an incredible impact on your children if imparted properly by loving and caring parents. Look at life in the U.S. today and consider how many leaders in business, politics, education, military, etc. say one thing and yet do another or, worse yet, nothing at all. At the moment, it’s crippling our country and stifling our progress! You read it in the papers every night or see it on television 24/7.
Sometimes I’m baffled by some of the most elementary trends I observe from day to day. It’s almost as though the more basic they become, the more difficult they are to understand. Ironically, some things seldom CHANGE.
What mystifies me is why most everyone finds it so difficult and challenging to deal with change when we’ve been doing exactly that all our lives! We’ve known nothing but CHANGE and yet continue to struggle with coping with its consequences.
I’ve always been very passionate concerning the responsibility we have to make certain future generations have access to the wonderful lessons, anecdotes, allegories, parables, analogies, and narratives we’ve experienced and enjoyed over the decades. Anyone in business for any substantial length of time has had the benefit and privilege to hear words of wisdom from some of the greatest leaders, writers, consultants, speakers and authors in the world.
so much more rewarding if only we would sometimes pause to recognize the obvious and act accordingly.
As a young soldier early in my military career, I was accepted into the U.S. Army Signal School Photo Lab Course conducted at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. I was enthralled with this particular post as we shared quarters and classrooms with members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, foreign services and the Military Intelligence community. I learned a great deal, accumulated a vast array of memories, and left there after graduating, assuming I would never return.
Amidst “chaos” around the world, our military community continues to do whatever necessary to preserve and protect the liberties we have grown to cherish. Little did I know at the time of my first visit decades ago, that I would return in the future at such a decisive point in the history of such a renowned military establishment.
