Hi, Rick.

I haven't used a Mac with WordPress, but most of my tips will also work with a Mac. I checked and Filezilla does work with Mac. The only thing listed that won't work with a Mac is Windows Live Writer. I have actually stopped using Windows Live Writer as the WordPress editor has improved so much in the year since I originally wrote this article.

I'm not really sure exactly what it is that your company does. But I have to tell you that your blog has done a lot for my Business Process Cell and its team members at work and my family at home too. Several months ago one of our team members downloaded one of your Generation Gems and brought it into work to share with all of us. It was the one about the aircraft carrier and the lighthouse and we laughed a lot but could really connect the moral of the story to a communication problem we were having at work. I went home that night and checked out your blog. As a Supervisor with a good number of years under my belt I recognized many of your Generational Gems and it was interesting to hear them again. I was also kind of surprised to find many I have never heard before. Our entire cell now visits your blog. In fact, your Gem titled "If The Horse Is Dead, Dismount" recently convinced us to make a critical decision we've been putting off.My wife was recently sharing a Gem with her sister on the phone. It was about the ham not fitting in the pan. They both enjoyed it because it reminded them of their Mother. My oldest daughter heard them laughing and asked why. My wife directed her to your blog after explaining the story and now all three of my children visit regularly. My daughter is the Editor of her high school newspaper and has since reprinted several of your Generation Gems in her paper. The response from her advisor and readers has been very positive. Based on the responses I've heard, I think you should find a way to share your Generational Gems with every high school, college, and business in the country. Everyone learns better from a good story and these great stories on your blog apparently entertain all generations. They've been around for so long because they're so powerful. Thanks for keeping them alive for us. Please keep them coming our way. Good job.

Thanks for your endorsement. I'm sure you speak for millions of other undecided voters in your frustration and lack of choice in a strong Presidential candidate. However, contact Congress.org, enter your zip code and you will find the names of your personal representatives in Washington. Drop them a note explaining your futility and disappointment. We can't just sit back and hope things will change. WE must take action now!

I am a great fan of Og mandino and his works.

I came to read "The Greatest Salesman in the World" as part of a group assignment of a self-development course.

I have read the book for five months in just the same way as described in "The Greatest Secret in the World" --- reading each scroll at least three times a day, for five weeks.

Reading a book in this way is so demanding that most people easily give up before reaching the end. So in the course I attend, each participant is assigned to a group of four, and the leader of each group interviews the other members of his/her group at the end of each week and posts in a Community BBS of a designated SNS service.

I am now reading Scroll VI this week and have 25 more weeks to go.

I feel my life has been changing greatly while reading this book.

Og Mandino's book "The Greatest Salesman in the World" was one I read over and over again when I first started in business. It helped me stay up and positive during a really challenging period in my life. I agree that his books and his principles are timeless.

Cheers,

Perot, Back On the Charts

By David S. Broder
Sunday, June 15, 2008; Page B07

Sixteen years after he shook up American politics by launching an impromptu campaign for president, Ross Perot is about to dip a toe back into the public debates. And, yes, he's bringing his charts with him to make his point.

Beginning today, people who go to http://www.perotcharts.com will find the Dallas billionaire waiting to challenge them on one of his favorite subjects -- the "ruin" he says America is courting with its spendthrift ways.

"We are right at the edge of the cliff," the voice with the unmistakable Texas twang informed me when I called him the other day to find out about this latest venture. "We can't go on spending money we don't have."

. . .

Current polls show that fewer than 1 percent of the voters call the budget deficit one of the country's major problems.

Part of the reason is that politicians of both parties are laboring to disguise the reality from public view. Both President Bush and the Democratic Congress have issued budgets this year that claim to achieve balance in 2012 -- just four years from now.

But those budgets are based on blue-sky assumptions that have no grounding in the real world. When I asked Perot what he made of them, he replied, "It's an election year. What would you expect them to say?"

In recent weeks, when I have found myself in conversations with former comptroller general David Walker and other economists who know how grim the long-term budget picture really is, I have mused aloud, "We need Ross Perot back." Turns out, he was quietly preparing his return. He took some of the basic work done by Walker and others and had professionals turn it into 35 very clear charts and link them on a Web site with an equally simple narration.

. . .

We really appreciate you keeping up with our blog --- especially daily! Thanks so much! In answer to your question, I have not yet written a book but it's certainly on my to-do list. In fact, it has been for quite some time as we've had other requests from clients and those who read our blog. At the moment, my travel schedule, keynote presentations, seminars, consulting assignments, and keeping up with the blog simply hasn't allowed me to focus on a book as yet. Your request will certainly add another twig to that fire. We'll certainly let you know when the book is completed and, again, we appreciate your encouragement. Please thank everyone at work for their encouragement ... it certainly is rewarding to hear that you enjoy our offerings. Keep in touch.

Respectfully, Harry K. Jones

Harry,

Several of us here at work read your blog daily and were interested in knowing if you have written any books yourself? If so, how can we learn more about them? If not, then we all agree that you should. You have enough material on your blog to fill at least three books and you seem to come up with something new, different and interesting all the time. Thank you very much for your creative efforts. We'll be first to buy your readings when they hit the bookstores!

Response to dhimes

Thanks for sharing your personal insight on such a cruicial subject as reading comprehension. I totally agree that poor readers can very well become good readers but I also believe we must cease depending on schools, teachers and strategies ALONE. We, as parents, grandparents, siblings and friends must take a more active part in assisting whenever and wherever we can. Our future as a country is a stake.
Thanks again for your input.

You are right, Harry, in that reading comprehension is essential. Make sure your children learn it correctly. We now know that poor readers can become good readers by applying reading comprehension strategies. It's well worth the investment.

Daniel,

Thanks for taking the time to drop us a note. Kudos to your teacher for sharing our blog content with your class. I hope you find our articles worthwhile in your personal quest for success.

Your Dad was certainly on the money with his comment about this poem being around for a long time. I've heard of many others who have, at one time, had it hanging in their locker rooms. It's really a noble message. I wish we could hang a copy in Congress.

Thanks again for your note.

Mr. Jones:

Our teacher turned us on to your blog and we've discussed several of your articles in class. I've got my parents reading your stuff now. I just thought you'd be interested in the fact that my Dad is our high school baseball coach and has a framed copy of The Guy In The Glass hanging on the wall in the locker room. It's been there for over 12 years now and a lot of athletes have read it and tried to live up to it, win or lose. Dad said it's been around for a very long time. Thanks for all the good reads.

Reality check: Baby Boomers are aging!

Cut out the large area devoted to your own promo of Duncan Hines products and make the type for INSTRUCTIONS and NEW EASY RECIPE larger.

With the same glasses I am using to type this, I could not read the directions on the box and had to get a MAGNIFYING GLASS to bake a cake.

Be assured, next time, I will buy another brand product.
