While T & C Federal Credit Union is not alone in its quest to become a
Choice Employer, the difference is it is already doing many things
needed to create a culture that attracts and retains world-class talent.
Even more admirable is that despite the many efforts the credit union is
making, its leaders are dedicated to continuous and never-ending
improvement to ensure sustained success.
On March 14-15, Harry K. Jones and Kathleen J. Wheelihan facilitated
the T&CFCU leadership team’s two-day retreat in Frankenmuth, Michigan.
The credit union leaders discussed the myths about employee retention, the
advantages and disadvantages of becoming a
Choice Employer, as well as the cost of employee turnover. The managers also
reviewed and discussed application of examples and case studies of other
companies that have successfully implemented efforts to attract and retain
one of the most precious commodities in today’s business world: employee
talent.
Using the “Common Threads Survey,” workshop participants completed
a self-assessment tool to identify areas of strength and weakness for the
common organizational and leadership factors that impact employee
satisfaction. To conclude the session, the team created its own Choice
Employer definition and defined the desired characteristics, as well as
an action plan to achieve its strategy.
By the time Harry and Kathleen repeated the session for the credit
union’s assistant managers on April 10-11, the credit union was already
well underway in implementing its action plan. T&CFCU CEO, Dianne
Addington, said that “one of the greatest values of the workshop was in
identifying the high and low common threads areas. And by developing an
action plan as part of the program, our team was able to come away with an
outline of what needed to be done. From there, it was easy to set the
priorities so we could take immediate action for a quick return on
investment.”
Congratulations and good luck to T&C Federal Credit Union!
