Tapping Your Creative Spirit at Botsford General Hospital's Employee Wellness Extravaganza

By Kathleen J. Wheelihan

Presented by: Kathleen Wheelihan, Vice President of Artistic Direction

A sunny spring day in April marked the Employee Wellness Extravaganza event at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Kathleen Wheelihan was the noontime keynote speaker, sharing tips and tools on how to gain more creativity. The following is an outline of her talk, as well as some additional suggested reading to help you refresh your creative spirit:
bullet"Tale of Two Cities" - we decide how we will view the world.
bullet"You always move in the direction of your most dominant thought" - is it a positive one?
bulletFew people can honestly say they love change, yet change is the basis for creativity and growth. Learn to embrace change and the opportunities it holds!
bulletCreate a vision for your own future.
bulletFour C's of Innovation
bullet"A Key Factor to becoming more innovative is to practice looking at the same thing as everyone else and thinking something different!"
bulletBrainstorming Guidelines
bulletMany common now seemingly indispensable products were not planned - they were accidents!
bulletRemember to ask yourself: "What opportunities could come from this failure or accident?"
bulletInstead of saying "I wish I'd thought of that!" - act on your ideas!
bulletSuggested Dumb Questions
bullet"What If" Questions
bulletKiller Phrases
bulletNurture the child within.
bulletAre you left brain- or right brain-dominant? Remember to use the creativity stimulators that apply.
bulletDo sweat the small stuff for big gains in creativity.
bulletRecord your ideas.
bulletChallenge yourself to see things differently everyday.
bulletDo you lead a balanced life? Make time for creativity and recharging your batteries.
bulletParadigm Shift Question
bulletGood luck!
