Employee Wellness Extravaganza
By Kathleen
J. Wheelihan
A sunny spring day in April marked the Employee Wellness Extravaganza
event at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Kathleen
Wheelihan was the noontime keynote speaker, sharing tips and tools on
how to gain more creativity. The following is an outline of her talk,
as well as some additional suggested reading to help you refresh your
creative spirit:
- "Tale of Two Cities" - we decide how we will view the world.
- "You always move in the direction of your most dominant thought" -
is it a positive one?
- Few people can honestly say they love change, yet change is the basis
for creativity and growth. Learn to embrace change and the opportunities
it holds!
- Create a vision for your own future.
- Four C's of Innovation
- "A Key Factor to becoming more innovative is to practice looking at
the same thing as everyone else and thinking something different!"
- Brainstorming Guidelines
- Many common now seemingly indispensable products were not planned
- they were accidents!
- Remember to ask yourself: "What opportunities could come from this
failure or accident?"
- Instead of saying "I wish I'd thought of that!" - act on your ideas!
- Suggested Dumb Questions
- "What If" Questions
- Killer Phrases
- Nurture the child within.
- Are you left brain- or right brain-dominant? Remember to use the creativity
stimulators that apply.
- Do sweat the small stuff for big gains in creativity.

- Challenge yourself to see things differently everyday.
- Do you lead a balanced life? Make time for creativity and recharging
your batteries.
