Even More Obvious Questions

Why do we say something is out of whack? What’s a whack?
When you open a bag of cotton balls, is the top one meant to be thrown away?
Why don’t sheep shrink when it rains?
If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?
